The Prettiest Town in Canada

Niagara-on-the-Lake is the original Capital of Upper Canada from 1792 to 1797. Nestled along the shores of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, we hold the distinction of being the only municipality in Canada whose elected head holds the title of Lord Mayor.

2012 was the 200th commemoration of the War of 1812. Lasting from 1812 to 1814, this was the only time any country invaded Canada. Today, millions of people from around the world travel here each year to experience our Town’s unique charm and historic sites, including Fort George and Brock’s Monument; period-restored heritage homes and Canada's first golf course.

We hope you will enjoy our Old Town shopping district, which boasts of a number of quaint shops, boutiques, restaurants and spas, as well as public and private art galleries, the centuries-old Court House, museums, breath-taking parks and gardens, as well as over 30 wineries and countless vineyards (many of which produce our world-class ice wine), and of course, the renowned Shaw Festival Theatre.

Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours

Choose your Adventure: Wet Jet or Jet Dome.

The Niagara River collects all the water from the Great Lakes which amounts to about 20% of the world's fresh water. Over the past 12,000 years, the turbulent currents of the immensely powerful Niagara Falls have carved out a 7-mile (11km) gorge on the lower Niagara. Hundreds of thousands of gallons of water flow over the Falls every minute and as that water enters the narrow rock gorge, it is compressed into the rapids that create our whitewater playground.

Whirlpool Jet Boat tours have allowed over 1.5 million guests to enjoy the power and beauty of Niagara's class V whitewater rapids. Experience the thrill of 360 degree turns and the excitement of the class V rapids up close!
